Item Entered: Tuesday, March 23, 2004

Schenker of Canada was proud to come on board as the Official Logistics Provider for the 2003 World Weightlifting Championships, recently staged in Vancouver, Canada from November 14-22, 2003. The road to Athens began here as a record 635 athletes from 86 countries competed for gold and the chance to qualify in the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Dr. Tamas Ajan, President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and Member of the IOC, spoke appreciatively of Schenker’s services, specifically regarding the transfer of the IWF’s Information & Technology System from Budapest, Hungary, as well as barbells and weightlifting equipment from Sweden.

The WWC is the first World Championship to be held in Vancouver since the city was appointed as host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, showcasing its ability to stage an international sporting event.

Under the guidance of President and CEO, Heiner Murmann and Executive VP, Arnold Da Silva, Schenker Canada has established a 2010 Olympic Team, which will be based out of Vancouver. Their mission is to offer logistical support to all parties associated with the Vancouver Organizing Committee, from the early phases of infrastructure development to the staging of the Games in 2010, as well as various cultural events.
