Public authorities, organizers, athletes and media representatives from all over the world relied on Schenker at the XIXth Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. These games were among the greatest challenges for Schenker in the event sector.

Whether it is 50,000 bottles of beer that had to have seals stuck on them for the Department of Alcohol and Beverages Commission of the state of Utah, television cameras and other technical equipment or bobs and skis - all tasks and transportation assignments were carried out reliably and on time.
Schenker, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary, was appointed the official supplier of customs and haulage services. Schenker, Inc. also worked for the Winter Paralympic Games and is the official service provider for the US Olympic team until the Summer Olympic Games in Athens 2004. Schenker Deutschland AG is a co-partner of the German Olympic team until 2004 and has therefore earned its share in the medals of the German athletes.

Salt Lake City 2002
Over 3,500 athletes and representatives of various nations and over 6,000 media representatives from more than 160 countries took part in the Games in Salt Lake City. Schenker's customers included the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and over 20 national Olympic committees, companies associated with them, international radio and television broadcasters and various public authorities. In order to meet all logistical requirements, Schenker moved over 13,000 tons of freight including the athletes' equipment and that of the media.

Logistics for the Main Media Centre
The Schenker Olympic team took care of the logistics for the Main Media Centre (MMC) as well as over 70 sports and other events. In order to do justice to the special requirements before, during and after the Games, Schenker had stationed its own team of logistics specialists from Australia, Germany, India, Austria and Switzerland in the MMC and in the Olympic Village. Schenker had about six weeks to set up the Main Media Center. There were only 60 hours available to remove everything and to get all the equipment of the radio and television broadcasters and all other journalists back on the road.

Award-winning customs professionals
Schenker was awarded a plaque for its strong support of the U.S. customs inspectors who were working in the Schenker logistics centre in Salt Lake City. U.S. customs staff from all over the United States were responsible for the inspection of all the international freight arriving for the Games in Salt Lake City.
