(Frankfurt am Main, April 21, 2011) In its extraordinary meeting in Frankfurt am Main today, the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG approved the contract for the ICx, thus paving the way for the largest single investment in the company's history. The multi-billion euro framework call-off purchase agreement with Siemens encompasses possible delivery of up 300 ICx trains by 2030.
The Chairman of the Deutsche Bahn AG Supervisory Board, Professor Utz-Hellmuth Felcht, was pleased by the decision: "This agreement is the green light for sustainable investment in the future of our company. That is good news for Germany." The Chairman of the DB Management Board, Dr. Rüdiger Grube, explained: "The new ICx will form the backbone of our long-distance transport services. We are thus pushing ahead full force with our customer and quality initiatives. The most important aspect for me is that our customers are the first to benefit."
"We are very proud of being able to add an additional important chapter to the trusting and long-standing cooperation with our key customer Deutsche Bahn. With the ICx, we are once again setting standards for flexibility and energy consumption on the railway market. DB customers can look forward to riding in the most modern trains in the world in the future," said Siemens CEO Peter Löscher. "This will be the largest individual order yet in Siemens' history."
DB will immediately call off 130 trains from the framework agreement. The call-off of a further 90 trains at set conditions is planned. The additional 80 trains can be called off by DB at any time. The first trains are expected to go into regular service when schedules change in December 2016.
The two companies plan to sign the agreement after expiration of the 14-day waiting and information period required under public procurement law.
