For the FIFA World Cup Korea Japan 2002™
Schenker exclusive provider for the international media
Host Broadcasting Service (HBS), the official and sole distributor for the television, broadcasting and radio rights for the FIFA World Cup Korea Japan 2002™, from May 31-June 30, 2002, has appointed Schenker Korea as exclusive provider at the International Media Centre (IMC) / International Broadcasting Centre (IBC). Journalists, TV and radio stations as well as millions of spectators all over the world are now relying on Schenker logistics during the most important event for all soccer fans.
Assisted by Schenker teams from various countries of origin from all over the world, Schenker Korea has moved a volume of so far 30 40′ containers and 15 20′ containers of seafreight into the IMC/IBC. In addition, there were approximately 250 tons of airfreight. Among the shipments were two ob vans to Korea from Germany, seven ob vans from Japan, and five ob vans ex Brasil, full of highly sensitive technics for TV transmission.
Schenker Korea has an office onsite at the IMC/IBC where all operations will be arranged. At present, a team of nine people is working here 24/7. Two additional team members are working in the Schenker warehouse at Kimpo, where Schenker has to check the security of all international freight before moving it into the IMC/IBC.
At the IMC/IBC, Schenker is running the Master Delivery Schedule on a daily basis, which has to be to provided to KOWOC (Korean Organizing Committee for the FIFA World Cup Korea Japan 2002™), to HBS as well as to security and police. Schenker is the only logistics provider who is actually operating onsite, including the unloading and loading at the docks and the delivery to the booth. Same procedure is in place for the move-out.
Due to the number of venues for the event, there is a high need for domestic trucking, before, during and after the games from stadium to stadium. Up to now approximately 150 truck loads, in total about 450 tons, were arranged. These movements are a project by themselves and have highest priority. "For a perfect performance, we are working together with our co-partner Korean Express to ensure a smooth operation, which is timewise more than important. We have to deliver and pick up exactly at certain time windows, there are no excuses," says Martin Bongard, Managing Director of Schenker Korea Ltd. All movements will be supervised by Schenker.
With annual sales of Euro 6.1 billion, nearly 32,000 employees and about 1,000 offices around the world, the Stinnes subsidiary Schenker is one of the world's leading providers of integrated logistics services, offering land transport, air and sea freight as well as comprehensive logistics solutions and global supply chain management from a single source.
