Thailand to Poland: First LANDbridge - Rail multimodal collaboration
DB Schenker introduces a new product capability under its DB SCHENKERroad portfolio, connecting South East Asia to Europe via a multimodal solution.
In a pilot shipment made Q3 of 2016, two 45’ high-cube containers of dental care raw material were picked up in Chonburi, Thailand, and were delivered to Swidnice, Poland. The multimodal venture involved five days of trucking across Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and China, – where customs formalities and rail container loading was done. Twelve more days were spent for the rail passage from Chongqing to Malaszewicze, before the cargo was moved via road to the final destination.
12 container-loads have since been successively shipped from Thailand to Poland for this customer.
According to Gregory Loh (Director of LANDbridge), this niche capability of rail pre-carriage across South East Asia differentiates DB Schenker from other rail-freight companies and from other cross-border trucking providers.
“The benefits of this solution to customers is manifold, delicately balancing and optimizing turn-around-time, cost, carbon-footprint etc, to meet the requirements of the customers supply chain. This capability has since been growing and we are progressively expanding its reach to other vertical markets” said Gregory Loh.
