Environmental commitment in Australia, China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia

In accordance with each country’s environmental requirements, our country organizations in Southeast Asia are making a contribution to the environment through their own specially developed sustainable goals.

DB Schenker Logistics received the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Award last year. It was named Best Transport Company in Asian Land Transport and Best Green Logistics Services Provider. This award is handed out for achievements such as complying with consistent environmental standards and investing in green technologies and initiatives.

Australia: New construction of the airport office in Melbourne
Numerous environmental considerations were included in the new construction of the airport office in Melbourne. The facility has a strong environmental focus. Rainwater is used for fire protection, the toilets in the main office and warehouseblock, which reduces the water consumption for that purpose by up to 70 percent for the whole facility.

With the installation of solar panels, and conversion of 80 percent of all forklifts to electric forklifts, energy consumption will be significantly reduced. The in-house recycling programs shall minimize landfill/general waste by 60 percent. The setup installation of office fit-out and services will achieve Green Star rating. This is a comprehensive, national, voluntary environmental rating scheme that evaluates the environmental design and achievements of buildings.

China and Hong Kong: Environmentally-friendly measures in working situations
The national environment commitment shown by the national companies in China and Hongkong makes a contribution to the sustainability objective of the DB Group.Strict separation of waste materials takes place in the warehouses. In order to save energy, air conditioners may only be turned on when the room temperature reaches 25° Celsius. At the same time employees are very careful to only turn on lights when necessary. Motiondetector activated light switches have been installed to automatically turn lights on and off in parts of buildings where employees seldom go. Photocopiers and printers should be operated in the energy savings mode during the working day. Plugs of electrical equipment not in use should be pulled out of the wall sockets.

India
In 2012, paper consumption was cut by 32 percent in India compared to 2011 thanks to modern printers and more sensible printing practices. Fifty percent of the paper consumed in Taiwan was converted to recycled paper.

Indonesia
In Indonesia, PT Schenker Petrolog Utama is involved in paper recycling programs. Our national company was one of the first companies to sign up to the “EQUINOX Recycled Paper Solutions Initiative,” under which it commits itself, among other things, to using only recycled paper instead of bleached paper.

Singapore
Schenker Singapore is introducingspecific energy-saving programs. For example, air conditioners may only be turned on when the room temperature reaches 25° Celsius. At the same time, our staff only turns on the light when necessary. In parts of buildings that employees use only occasionally, motion detectors turn the light on and off automatically. We also save electricity by turning photocopiers and printers to power-saving mode during the working day.
