Protecting the environment and resources
Germany’s largest logistics research project
The Efficiency Cluster Logistics Ruhr is Germany’s largest logistics research project. More than 120 companies and 11 research institutes will be collaborating for five years from 2010 until 2015 in order to promote three visions.
The Efficiency Cluster Logistics Ruhr works on seven principal technical and socio-technical topics in more than 30 cooperative projects with a total investment volume of around € 100 million. Its stated aim is to meet the three fundamental challenges of the future with only 75 percent of the resources consumed today, in an ecologically and socially acceptable way. DB Schenker is one of six selected logistics companies that research eco-efficient products and logistics systems as part of the Green Logistics joint project. The aim of the joint project is the initial identification of the environmental effects of logistical processes and systems, in a way that is standardized and correctly reflects the causes, in the areas of logistics facilities, intralogistics, and transportation. Thus, the entire logistical chain is taken into account. The methods and instruments developed for this will be developed into a certification system for logistics service providers.
