A piece of history
Famous section of the Berlin Wall arrives in Washington, D.C. care of DB Schenker
Famous section of Berlin Wall visits NYC on way to 25th Anniversary Celebrations in Washington, D.C.
DB Schenker provided the transport of an historic piece of the Berlin Wall as it arrived at JFK airport on October 31, 2014 at 7 a.m, enroute to its final destination of Washington, D.C. The entire logistics campaign including customs brokerage, is being managed by DB Schenker.
The CAL Cargo Airlines flight was carrying a very unique and important section of the Berlin Wall from Leipzig, Germany, to New York City. It will subsequently be driven to Washington D.C. in time for its unveiling at the German Embassy during an Official Ceremony commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In the quarter-century since the Berlin Wall fell, a group of Germans created a particular memorial to that event: a three-ton segment of the wall signed by the government and other leaders who managed the peaceful ending of the Cold War. The segment’s owners, the VNG Group, recently presented it to the Altantic Council as a gift to the American people, to be kept in Washington as an encouragement of continued U.S. engagement with Europe.
This section of the wall is significant because it features the signatures of historic figures that played an instrumental role in bringing about the fall of the Berlin Wall and with it the end of the Cold War. The signatories include, among others, former US President, George H. W. Bush; former German Chancellor, Dr. Helmut Kohl; Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the Soviet Union; Nobel Peace Prize Winner Lech Walesa; Chancellor Angela Merkel, German President Gauck; and more.
